Specimen Collection Requirements: | Protect from light. Label both the container and the foil with a specimen label. Minimum 10 hour fast is required; collect in the morning before breakfast. Do not consume alcohol, or nutritional supplements containing vitamin B6 (pyridoxal, pyridoxine), within 24 hours of collection. For newborns the specimen is collected just before next feed. Calgary Zone: Test cannot be collected by Mobile Collection Service (MCS). Vitamins B1 and B6 can be performed on the same specimen. | ||||||

Processing: | DO NOT centrifuge or separate specimen. Freeze specimens. Ensure whole blood remains protected from light by either wrapping entire tube in foil, or transferring whole blood into an amber tube with amber or opaque lid. Calgary Foothills McCaig Lab Accession: Send frozen specimens received on weekends/holidays to ACCC Central Receiving Lab. Ensure frozen specimens do not thaw. ACCC Central Receiving Lab: Store frozen specimens in -80°C freezer, PK designated shelf. | ||||||
