Clinical Indications: | Blood spot methionine quantitation is supplemental to newborn screening and is intended for classical homocystinuria screening in asymptomatic infants. | ||
Ordering Alert: | This test is intended for homocystinuria screening in asymptomatic infants. As a screening test, both false positive and negative results are possible. Follow up diagnostic testing is required for all infants with a positive result or infants with a clinical suspicion for homocystinuria. | ||
Shipping and Handling Alert: | Ensure the blood spot is dry before closing the protective flap. | ||
