Neoplasm, leukemia, lymphoma and solid tumor diagnoses

Collection Alert:

Unopened dedicated tubes or containers (do not share) are required for Cancer Cytogenetic analysis.

Connect Care ordering questions are critical for appropriate specimen routing.

Specimen Collection Requirements:

Cancer Cytogenetics North	Cancer Cytogenetics South
Bone Marrow Aspirate: Collect 2.0 to 4.0 mL of specimen into the polypropylene tube with transport media or into a sodium heparin tube (green top, not PST).	Bone Marrow Aspirate: Collect a minimum of 2.0 mL of specimen into a sodium heparin tube (green top, not PST). If collecting a specimen from a patient with a diagnosis of PCN, Multiple Myeloma or any other diagnosis where CD138+ targeted FISH may be required, collect at least 3.0 mL of bone marrow in 2 separate sodium heparin tubes.
Paraffin-Embedded Tissue: Refer to the current Anatomic Pathology procedures. Include a marked Hematoxylin & Eosin slide as well as six 4-micron unstained charged slides should be submitted. Fluids: Contact Cytogenetics North prior to collecting the specimen. Submit in an appropriately sized sterile container. Do not add any additives/fixatives.	Fluids: Submit in an appropriately sized sterile container. Do not add any additives/fixatives.
Bone Core Biopsy: Contact Cytogenetics North prior to collecting the specimen.	Bone Core Biopsy: Collect specimen in Bone Marrow Transport Media tube.

DO NOT centrifuge or aliquot specimen.
DO NOT refrigerate or freeze specimen.

Transportation:

Submit to Cancer Cytogenetics North	Submit to Cancer Cytogenetics South
Transport at room temperature to Cytogenetics via UAH Specimen Control WMC 4B2.10.	Transport at room temperature to the Cancer Cytogenetics, Diagnostic and Scientific Center (DSC).
Transport immediately after collection.	Transport immediately to DSC after collection.
Specimens should be received: Monday to Friday 08:00-16:15.	Specimens should be received: Monday to Friday 08:00-16:30.
