| Ordering Alert: | This test is for the further investigation of a patient with a high clinical suspicion and initial laboratory results consistent with a mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation disorder, with the exception of clinically recognizable syndromes (e.g. MELAS, MERRF, NARP etc.), where molecular genetic testing is recommended for diagnosis confirmation.
This test will be reviewed for approval by laboratory medical scientific staff. The healthcare professional ordering this test must call the Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH) Biochemical Genetics Laboratory (403) 955-7379 or the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) Biochemical Genetics Laboratory (780) 407-8820 at least 24 hours in advance to discuss the reason for referral with the Biochemical Geneticist on-service. Pre-booking for the biopsy is required. Refer to the pre-booking requirements for Surgical Pathology. | ||
