Collection Alert: | No creams or ointments are to be applied to the patients skin 24 hours prior to sweat chloride testing. Ensure the patient has plenty to drink starting 2 days prior to testing so that enough sweat is produced. | ||||||

Testing Schedule: | Edmonton: Outpatients: Monday, Wednesday & Thursday between 0930 – 1315. Inpatients: Monday – Friday between 0800 - 1545 Calgary: Tuesday & Wednesday only. | ||||||

Additional Test Information: | This test takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete. A gel patch is placed on the patient’s inner arm (or thigh or calf for newborns) which is attached to a machine that stimulates the sweat glands. After 5 minutes, the gel is removed, the collection site is cleaned and the collection device is attached. Sweat is collected for 20 - 30 minutes. If not enough sweat is collected, the collection procedure may need to be repeated. Edmonton Zone: Outpatient testing is performed at the Edmonton Kaye Clinic Outpatient Laboratory and Inpatient testing is performed in Special Chemistry at University of Alberta Hospital. | ||||||
