Ordering Alert:	Consultation with the Public Health Lab (ProvLab) Microbiologist On-Call is required prior to ordering. The Microbiologist On-Call should notify the MOH of all approved testing for TBE.

Specimen Collection Requirements:	Important: DO NOT CENTRIFUGE any specimen type. Whole blood - DEDICATED 3 to 5 mL EDTA Serum - DEDICATED 1 to 3 mL RED or GOLD SST CSF - minimum 0.5 mL in a sterile 1.5 to 2 mL screw-top tube Other body fluids - in a sterile 1.5 to 2 mL screw-top tube Tissue - Fresh frozen tissues or formalin-fixed or paraffin-embedded tissues Place in a plastic container Identify formalin fixed as being in formalin Paraffin blocks can be sent as entire blocks or six 10 uM in a plastic tube or vial Do not send paraffin cuts or slices that are affixed to a microscope slide
Stability and Storage:	Store specimens in refrigerator or frozen until shipped
