Brooks: pH, pCO2, HCO3, tCO2, BE, Lactate, Ionized Calcium.

Rural sites: pH, pCO2, HCO3, tCO2, BE, Lactate.

Collection Alert:

pO2, sO2, and oxyhemoglobin will not be reported if the specimen is collected in a vacutainer.

Specimen Collection Requirements:

Specimen tube must be full
Avoid strenuous exercise on the day of collection. If patient sweating/breathing hard due to exercise, have them rest 30 minutes if possible.
A tourniquet is not required for collection.
A tourniquet can be used during collection if the guidelines below are followed:
- Draw sample immediately after application of tourniquet; tourniquet application must not exceed one minute before accessing vein
- If tourniquet in place longer than one minute before accessing vein, release it and reapply after two minutes before venipuncture performed.
- Do not clench fist during and prior to collection.

Rural: i-Stat can use either Heparin with or without gel.

Processing:

Testing to begin within 15 minutes of collection.
