Additional Test Information: | Test screen for gluten intolerance (Celiac Disease) Initial test of Celiac Disease Screen includes TTG IgA. The current method has the ability to determine whether a sample has low IgA levels. Additional reflexive assays will be ordered as required and may include Anti-Endomysial Antibodies and TTG IgG. Physician Information: Initiating a gluten-free diet prior to referral or prior to screening will interfere with the diagnostic tests for celiac disease. Please note that individuals may exhibit a wide range of responses to gluten challenge over varying periods of time. Some patients only require a diet containing gluten (minimum of 3 g/day gluten or approximately 1-2 slices of bread/day) for at least 2 weeks to exhibit histological changes and at least 4 weeks for tTG IgA levels to increase. Others may require a challenge for as long as two years prior to the development of intestinal injury or antibody response. Celiac disease serology during the challenge should be repeated every 4-6 months or immediately with the development of symptoms. Click here to view a diagnostic algorithm. | ||
