Specimen Collection Requirements: | Collections restricted to:
One 2 mL gray top tube (Na fluoride/potassium oxalate) 0.2 mL plasma Calgary Zone: Microcollection Minimum Whole Blood Volumes. | ||
Processing: | Deliver to lab immediately on ice. Centrifuge within 15 minutes at 4ºC + 2ºC, and aliquot. Once aliquotted, plasma is stable. HCTL only: Deliver to lab immediately on ice. Centrifuge within 15 minutes in Hettich coagulation centrifuge and aliquot. Once aliquotted, plasma is stable. CRL only: Deliver to lab, centrifuge and perform testing immediately. Microcollections: Deliver to lab immediately on ice. Centrifuge within 15 minutes in microcentrifuge at room temperature, do not aliquot, place on ice immediately. Transport specimen on ice to testing lab as soon as possible. Extra-regional: Deliver to lab immediately on ice. Centrifuge within 15 minutes at 4ºC + 2ºC and aliquot. Once aliquotted, plasma is stable. If plasma aliquot cannot be received by FMC Chemistry within 8 hours, store and send the plasma at 2-8ºC. | ||
