| Specimen Collection Requirements: | Using needle and syringe, aspirate material from closed abscess (>1 cm deep) and inject specimen through the stopper into an anaerobic transport media (PRAS). Alternately, transfer specimen to a sterile container. Submit swabs in anaerobic transport media (PRAS). Refer to CLS Form #M16005: Collection of Specimens for Anaerobes - Guidelines for Physicians. | ||
| Processing: | Store specimen at room temperature. Do NOT refrigerate. DO NOT submit specimen in syringe, with or without needle attached. | ||
