Specimen Collection Requirements: | Acceptable specimens: biopsy, corneal scrapings, enucleation, ulcers, keratitis, intraocular fluid, vitreous/aqueous eye fluid, endophthalmitis, lacrimal gland/canal, anterior chamber fluid, washing fluid. Submit specimen in a sterile container. Refer to Eye Specimen Collection - Guidelines for Physicians MI6006 | ||
Processing: | Store specimen at room temperature. DO NOT refrigerate. Specimen MUST be received in Microbiology at the Diagnostic and Scientific Centre (DSC) within 2 hours of collection. Specimen may be inoculated to media at the bedside. Media kits are available from DSC Microbiology. Transport inoculated media plates and remaining specimen with a gel pack. | ||
