| Specimen Collection Requirements: | See Body Fluid Collection Guidelines. Submit a minimum of 2 mL fluid in a sterile container. Acceptable specimens include: peritoneal dialysis fluid, peritoneal fluid, pleural fluid, synovial fluid. Fluids and aspirates are best obtained with a needle and syringe. | ||
| Processing: | Store specimen at room temperature. DO NOT refrigerate. DO NOT send specimen in syringe, with or without needle attached. Specimen MUST be received in Microbiology at the Diagnostic and Scientific Centre (DSC) within 2 hours of receipt in the hospital laboratory or Patient Service Centre. | ||
