Test Name:Fibroblast Culture, establishment of (G&G South ACH)
Performing Site: Alberta Children's Hospital
Performing Dept:Shared Genetic Laboratory Service
Availability:Set-up Monday through Friday (except for statutory holidays).
Preferred Tube/Container:See Specimen Requirements
Specimen Requirements:Biopsy specimen should be placed in transport media that is at AMBIENT temperature.
Specimen Processing:Do NOT freeze.
Maintain at ambient temperature if specimen is being delivered to the laboratory directly. Specimen can be refrigerated if not immediately being delivered for culture set-up.
Specimen Handling:Transport biopsy to Genetic Laboratory Services (ACH) during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm).
Additional Information:Transport media can be obtained from the Cytogenetics Laboratory during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm).
Alternatively, transport media may be obtained from ACH Anatomic Pathology.
Allow medium to warm to ambient temperature for 30 minutes prior to use.
Requisition/Form:Specimens can be submitted using either Biochemical Genetics Laboratory Requisition or Constitutional Cytogenetics Requisition
Please ensure all required information, including patient's clinical history/indication, is provided on the requisition.
