Specimen Requirements:1. Collect a random urine specimen.
2. Submit 5 to 10 mL of collected specimen.
Min. Sample Required:1.0 mL
Specimen Processing:Freeze immediately.
Test requires creatinine result for interpretation.
Additional Information:Urine amino acids screen is done initially and quantitation ordered if indicated.
Must notify the Newborn Metabolic Screening and Biochemical Genetics Lab for high priority turn-around time.
Requisition/Form:Submit request using Chemistry Specialty Requisition
Please ensure all required information, including patient's clinical history/indication is complete on the requisition.
Indications:Evaluating disorders of amino acid transport and a few select disorders of amino acid metabolism. Therefore, plasma amino acids is the recommended test for primary investigation. Include family history, clinical condition, diet and drug therapy information on the requistition.
Reference Interval:Reference Intervals are age-dependent and will be provided on the report.
