Highlights

  • Approximately $13 million from Alberta’s Rural Health Facilities Revitalization Program (RHFRP) are being spent on upgrades and renovations at the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre on the Emergency Department (ED) and Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) unit.
  • The Emergency Department upgrades include a complete redesign and renovation to enhance patient and staff experience and safety. Renovations to the ED include increased, and improved treatment spaces, better patient flow, a new waiting room, and washrooms accessible to everyone.
  • Design work for the ED project is mostly completed and work on the temporary ED space is currently underway. The ED project is expected to be completed in early 2025.
  • In support of the ED project, the Wetaskiwin Health Foundation launched the Give to Life – Emergency Care Campaign to help raise $1.7 million to purchase new state-of-the-art ED equipment. For more information visit Current Campaign – Wetaskiwin Health Foundation.
  • Work on the MDR project began in late spring 2023 and is expected to be completed in late 2024. MDR renovations will further ensure that medical devices used at the health centre are cleaned and sterilized properly, reducing the risk, and spread of infections.
