Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre Parkade Expansion

Central Zone, Capital Projects

Highlights

  • Two new levels will be added to the existing parkade, creating 500 new parking spaces. Work will begin in Spring 2024 and will take approximately a year to complete.
  • The expansion will cost an estimated $20 million to build and will be debt-financed by AHS Parking Services. No healthcare dollars are used for AHS parking facilities.
  • Levels 1 to 4 of the parkade will remain open during construction. Level 5, which is staff only parking, will be closed to accommodate construction of the additional levels.
  • The new levels will be constructed from pre-cast concrete, which will be trucked into site. Temporary roadways and changes to traffic patterns will be necessary to accommodate construction.
  • This expansion is necessary as existing public parking lots adjacent to the Central Alberta Cancer Centre and directly west of the parkade will be lost when construction begins on the new inpatient tower in fall 2024 as part of the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre redevelopment project.
  • With the future growth of the site increased demand for parking is expected. Ensuring there is access to parking for patients, visitors and staff is an important part of meeting that growth.
  • AHS will continue to share construction updates and milestones as the project progresses.
