Seniors Mental Health Program Inpatient Services

Acute geriatric psychiatry program consisting of mood and thought disorder units, and Dementia units.

The Seniors Mental Health program provides assessment and treatment programs for individuals, generally over the age of 65 with psychiatric illness such as dementia, and mood and / or thought disorders. The goal of the program is to assist each patient to gain their optimal level of functioning in preparation for community integration. Specialty programming offered in areas of: Mood and Thought Disorder, and Specialized Dementia. The service focuses on providing patient and family centered treatment, medication recommendations and care plan development for seniors with complex presentations.

This service is provided by Recovery Alberta and Recovery Alberta contracted service providers.

Service Providers May Include
dietitians, doctors, indigenous liaison, nurses (RN, RPN, LPN), occupational therapists (OTs), pharmacists, physiotherapists (PTs), psychiatric aides, recreational therapist, social workers, speech language pathologist
Eligibility

For individuals generally 65 years and older with moderate to severe psychiatric concerns including cognitive disorders with behavioural disturbances, mood or thought disorders. Or indviduals under 65 with a confirmed diagnosis of major neurocognitive impairment with behavioral disturbances.

Service Access

A referral from a professional is needed. Intake Coordinator will facilitate referral and follow up with referral source.
