The Edmonton ALS Clinic provides specialized, multidisciplinary care for individuals with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other motor neuron diseases (e.g., Primary Lateral Sclerosis, Kennedy's disease.)Provides assessment and follow-up care to assist patients diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and other motor neuron disorders. Diagnoses, educates, treats and offers rehabilitation. Also involved with research.
Care is provided by a multidisciplinary team which may include: Neurology, Respirology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Dietetics, Speech-Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Social Work.
Services include:
• Confirmation of diagnosis
• Ongoing disease monitoring and management from full team
• Patient and family education and counselling
• Respiratory, nutritional, swallowing, communication, and mobility assessment
• Coordination with community services and home care
• Telephone consultation and support for patients and referring providers
