Children's Day Treatment Program

A mental health day program for children in Grades 3 to 7 who have moderate to severe mental health challenges that significantly impact their school functioning. The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) provides on-site classrooms. Caregivers are required to attend regular family therapy sessions and case conferences.

CDTP is voluntary program that provides the following:

  • mental health assessment and treatment recommendations
  • psychiatric consultation
  • weekly family therapy
  • structured group programming

Caregivers are expected to attend regular family therapy sessions and case conferences.

Access
Service Providers May Include
child life specialists, family counsellors, family liaisons, occupational therapists (OTs), psychiatrists, psychologists, psychometrists, psychosocial rehabilitation assistants, registered nurses (RNs), speech language pathologists (SLPs), teachers
Eligibility

Child must be in grade 3 to grade 7 and have:

  • a clinical need for a comprehensive multidisciplinary assessment & conceptualization, that cannot meet in the community
  • medical stability
  • a primary care physician (family doctor / pediatrician)
  • moderate to severe emotional, cognitive and / or other mental health symptoms
  • moderate-severe significant difficulty functioning in regular day to day activities (i.e school, community)
  • a parent or legal guardian who consents, and is able to be actively involved and engaged in intensive family therapy
  • transportation to and from the program
  • the ability to participate in a milieu / classroom based setting
Referral Needed

CDTP accepts referral from Access Mental Health or from another Child & Adolescent Addiction, Mental Health and Psychiatry Program (CAAMHPP) in the Calgary Area
