The Community Helpers Program is a suicide prevention program that is targeted for youth and adults ages 12 and over. The Community Helpers Program is a peer support program focused on youth mental health promotion and suicide prevention. The goal is to improve the mental health and well-being of Alberta’s youth and young adults. Every community has people who others go to for help. By providing training and ongoing support, the program helps youth and young adults, ages 12 - 30, and the adults who support them, to learn the skills and get the tools to help others in their communities. Outcomes of the program include:
- improved mental health and well-being among youth and young adults
- increased access to professional help for those at risk of suicide
- increased community capacity to offer evidence-informed programs that reduce the risk of suicide
- increased help-seeking among youth and young adults
- reduced stigma connected to getting help
