Neuromodulation

Working in collaboration with the department of Neurosurgery at Foothills hospital, a Registered Nurse coordinates screening for and management of implanted neurostimulation devices.

Neurostimulation involves implanting a generator (similiar to a pacemaker) which connects to a fine wire implanted along the spinal cord, or a peripheral nerve or deep in the brain to treat neuropathic, or some ischemic pain conditions (see eligibility criteria in the Alberta Referral Directory). Patients adjust stimulation settings using a remote.
