The Mobile Response Team (MRT) operates Recovery Alberta's mental health crisis triage for the Calgary Corridor.MRT offers urgent mental health support, and / or consultation in crisis situations. MRT accepts referrals from individuals, professionals, and third-party callers (families, friends, neighbors, or other concerned citizens). MRT makes every effort to create a plan to resolve the current crisis. All services are voluntary. MRT sees clients of all ages (depending on suitability) and provides the following services:
- Crisis prevention and intervention
- Information regarding resources and support
- Provides consultation to other professionals
- Provides education regarding mental health topics and issues
- Guidance in the process for obtaining a Form 8 Warrant under the Mental Health Act
- Critical incident response and Psychological First Aid (PFA)
- MRT is able to meet an individual in their home, in the community, or at Sheldon M Chumir Health Centre; and at times the crisis can be resolved via telephone
MRT will try to support anyone looking for help with a personal, social or family crisis. MRT services are voluntary and as such, MRT has no authority to have someone admitted to a hospital or force any level of treatment for the client. MRT does not provide any transport for clients.
MRT is a crisis service but not 911, however the goal of MRT is to respond within 24 - 48 hours. Phone consults can happen anytime during those hours.
Times for in-person visits are dependent on several factors, including:
- The location of the mobile
- Road conditions and weather
- Staff availability
- Previously scheduled community assessments
