Stroke and Geriatric Empowerment Unit

A specialized program for adults who would benefit from an intensive rehabilitation program: 6 to 8 weeks of intensive therapy or 4 weeks dedicated to restorative care.

Provides assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation to clients who have had a stroke or require further rehabilitation therapy following surgical interventions. Clients who experience a deficit or a sudden onset in their daily functioning are also treated on an inpatient basis.

Service Providers May Include
dietitians, doctors, health care aides (HCAs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), occupational therapists (OTs), pharmacists, physiotherapists (PTs), social worker, speech-language pathologists (SLPs)
Eligibility
  • be medically stable with a clear diagnosis and established health issues
  • be able to take part in active rehab for 3 hours per day
  • be able to follow one-step commands
  • have sufficient attention, short-term memory, and insight
  • be willing and motivated to take part in the program

A waiting period of up to 2 to 3 weeks may apply, based on eligibility requirements.
