Innovative Walking Aids

Provides access to trial novel robotic and innovative walking aids for people with difficulty walking.

Patients of any age can be referred for an equipment trial for our current devices:

  • Trexo (robotic walking aid) - Maximum height of 170 cm, maximum body mass of 68 kg
  • Agilik (robotic knee orthosis) - Height between 112 and 180 cm, maximum body mass of 125 kg. Must be able to self-initiate gait
  • Levity (body weight support gait aid) - Height between 76-142 cm, body mass of 11-45 kg

If a device works well and there are appropriate rehabilitation goals, there is an option for an intensive therapy block using that device to work towards the individualized goals.

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria:

  • Presence of a condition making walking community distances without a gait aid challenging
  • Comfortable fits within the devices size parameters

Trexo Device Restrictions: Maximum height of 170 cm, maximum body mass of 68 kg.
Agilik Device Restrictions: Between Height between 112 and 180 cm, maximum body mass of 125 kg.
Levity Device Restrictions: Height between 76-142 cm, body mass of 11-45 kg.

Exclusion criteria:

Medical condition or recent surgery requiring lower extremity immobilization or weight-bearing restriction.

  • Medical condition restricting physical activity 
  • Pain or symptomatic hypotension while standing 
  • Severe lower extremity contracture
