Inpatient Orthopaedic Surgery

Provides adult, ages 16 and older inpatient Orthopaedic pre and post-operative surgical care.

Provides care to patients in hospital for elective and urgent / emergency surgeries for orthopedic problems. Regular surgeries include:

  • total hip, knee and shoulder replacements
  • spinal surgeries
  • hip, ankle, upper and lower leg, elbow surgeries
  • tumour resections
  • fractured hip surgeries

Public Parking available Main Hospital Visitor Parking.

Accessible parking availble on south side of Mother Rosalie Health Services Centre.

Service Access

Patients are referred to an orthopedic surgeon through a Primary Care Provider or an Emergency Room Provider.

Wait Times

Patients scheduled for hip, knee and shoulder arthroplasty surgery will be seen at the Edmonton Bone and Joint Centre for their pre-op assessment, preparation and teaching. Wait times for surgery after this varies.

Other elective surgeries are seen by the Pre-Admission Clinic for screening and / or assessment.

Emergent patients are seen via Emergency Room triage and assessment from the Orthopedic surgery team. Surgical interventions are booked in conjunction with Provincial Guidelines.
