Clinical Genetics Outreach Services

Provides care for people and their families who have, or who are at risk for, genetic conditions during infancy, childhood and adulthood and who reside in the Lethbridge or Medicine Hat areas.

Services include assessment, diagnosis and genetic counselling, and screening and management recommendations. Outreach clinics at Chinook Regional Hospital and Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for in-person appointments with a medical geneticist generally occur monthly. Appointments with the genetic counsellor are available more frequently, and may occur in-person, virtually or by phone. Patients will receive team-based care involving both a medical geneticist and genetic counsellor, based on the reason for referral.

Patients who can receive optimized service through another clinic, such as the Prenatal Genetic Clinic or other specialty clinic will be offered appointments through those clinics instead of the Lethbridge Outreach Genetics Clinic or Medicine Hat Outreach Genetics Clinic.
With a focus on patient and family-centered care, our service collaborates with both local and international specialists to offer high quality care and research opportunities.
