Rehabilitation Oncology

 Location: Holy Cross Centre

Provides outpatient rehabilitation oncology services and lymphedema management for cancer patients.

Services include:

  • assessments and treatment for rehabilitation conditions, including lymphedema, caused by cancer and / or cancer treatments
  • occupational therapy and physiotherapy assessments of range of motion, function, pain, mobility and weakness
  • cancer related lymphedema management for swelling that has developed in any part of the body related to the cancer or cancer treatments, including compression bandaging, manual lymph drainage as indicated, exercise, and education re skincare, self massage and home management.
  • assessment and prescription for daytime compression garments and / or night compression systems
  • alberta aids to daily living authorizations for compression sleeves, stockings, and / or other aids to daily living equipment
  • lymphedema education  and cancer-related fatigue class taught monthly

Up to 10 treatment sessions are covered and extended at the discretion of the treating therapist.

Your doctor will get a written report after the assessment.

Eligibility

Clients with rehabilitation conditions, including lymphedema, caused by cancer and / or cancer treatments.

Examples of, but not limited to, and other rehabilitation conditions such as: axillary webbing (cording), radiation capsulitis, trismus from head and neck cancer, radiation fibrosis limiting range of motion, pain, fatigue, decreased mobility, spinal accessory nerve damage, and deconditioning.
