Ambulatory Community Physiotherapy - Pediatrics

Physiotherapy services for complex pediatric conditions.

Services are provided through private clinics contracted by Alberta Health Services. Offers treatment and teaching to help decrease pain, increase strength and flexibility, and manage daily activities.

Your child is eligible for ambulatory community physiotherapy (ACPT) funding if your child:

  • is under 1 year with torticollis
  • has a chronic health problem (e.g., cerebral palsy with a treatment for spasticity like botox)
  • has problems with gross motor skills or coordination
  • has a chronic health problem and needs ongoing group exercise class

To be eligible for ambulatory community physiotherapy (ACPT) funding, your child must:

  • have a current Alberta Health Care card
  • have limitations, which can be modified with physiotherapy treatment, affect daily life and ability to do things, or need physiotherapy to improve (with or without a caregiver)

You are not eligible for ACPT funding if your child:

  • is eligible for coverage by another health payer
  • is getting or is eligible for physiotherapy through a Primary Care Network (for same diagnosis) or other AHS-funded programs

Service Access

Healthcare providers should consult the Alberta Referral Directory for service referral information.

Patients may call a clinic directly to book an appointment without a doctor referral.

Wait Times

The length of time before an assessment can be scheduled will vary depending on the capacity of the clinic and the monthly Program funding available. Clients have access to treatment on a first-come, first-served basis. Contact the clinic to have your name added to the waitlist.

An estimated wait time will be provided at the time of appointment booking.

Fees

You may have to pay other fees for materials or supplies used for treatment. ACPT doesn't cover these costs.
