Anemia management services are limited in scope:
Preoperative patients
Prenatal patients
Patients with anemia of chronic disease (i.e.: not related to iron deficiency) should instead be referred to General Hematology or appropriate specialty service.This may include patients with:
Professional referral may be initiated by medical professionals with prescribing privileges: physicians, nurse practitioners
Healthcare providers should consult the Alberta Referral Directory for service referral information.
All patients having elective surgery are eligible for assessment. Some services require professional referral. We do not accept referrals for patients who are not facing surgical procedures.
Wait times for patients to receive assessment and treatment may vary, depending on case load, other.
Most services provided are covered by the Alberta Health provincial insurance plan. Some treatments may not be covered (e.g.: iron supplements, other medications).
