Addiction Services - Shelters

Short term, non medical services for individuals with substance use disorders, social detoxification programs offer room, board and interpersonal support to intoxicated individuals and individuals in substance use withdrawal.

Clients should be physically and mentally able to detoxify in a non-medical setting. An individual may be admitted who is intoxicated or in a state of withdrawal and requires a safe environment for withdrawal from drugs or alcohol.

Client should be able to walk with minimum assistance.

This service is provided by Alberta Health Services and Alberta Health Services contracted service providers

Eligibility

For persons over 18 years

A client may not be admitted if:

  • emergency or psychiatric care is required for serious injury or illness
  • they are unconscious or acting in a threatening manner
  • they require medical detoxification
  • they are unable to care for themselves
  • individuals with a history of physical or verbal aggression
