The Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit is dedicated to the provision of critical care to neonates, infants, and children with an underlying cardiac abnormality that may require congenital cardiac surgery and/or medical, surgical, and mechanical support of cardiac failure.The Stollery's Critical Care Program participates in the Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) Program which provides life saving support methods and therapies such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) and ventricular assist device (VAD) technology.
The PCICU (Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit) is the major Western Canadian Centre for pediatric cardiac surgery and organ transplantation.
The Stollery PCICU is located on the 6th floor of the Mazankowski Heart Institute.
