Pediatric patients only.
Child must be taking a minimum of 20cc at one time.
Children using seating systems wider than 16" wheel-to-wheel or without removable back canes will be redirected to Outpatient Dysphagia Clinic. If child is seated in a wheelchair for ALL meals, please contact to discuss case prior to making referral.
Service is provided to:
- children at risk for aspiration (food or liquid enters the airway), choking and possible airway obstruction, chest infections, malnutrition, dehydration and impaired growth and development.
- children with complex feeding / swallowing problems.
Healthcare providers should consult the Alberta Referral Directory for service referral guidelines and referral forms.
A clinical feeding & swallowing assessment by a feeding therapist is required prior to referral.
A physician referral is required, and primary care must be retained by the physician. This is not a physician-led clinic.
Referrals are responded to within 2 business days.
Assessments are given priority based on how urgent they are.
Once the referral is accepted, the family will be contacted to schedule an appointment.
