Pediatric Physiotherapy
Tertiary Physiotherapy at ACH serves a range of specialties across the spectrum of care including acute, medical and rehabilitation services with a focus on diagnostic assessment, care planning and intervention in the context of patient and family centered care.This service focuses on helping to restore physical function, movement, and mobility for children with movement disorders, pain, trauma, chronic disease, and complex needs including musculoskeletal and neurological concerns.
Provides:
- assessment, diagnosis, treatment, consultation and education targeting specific goals
- service can be provided in isolation of, or in collaboration with various multi-disciplinary clinics
- service delivery follows a response to intervention approach and may be offered in universal, targeted or individualized formats
- navigational supports to transition children to local services as required using Pediatric Rehabilitation Continuum to guide level and location of care needs
Service Streams:
- Musculoskeletal: Burns, Rheumatology, Amputee, Arthrogryposis
- Neurological and Transitions: Treatment Post-intervention, Specialty equipment, Functional Goals
- Pain: Acute, Transitional and Chronic
- Seating: Provision and support of level B or C wheelchairs and seating systems
- ECR: multidisciplinary intervention for children under 5 with acute changes in function and/or medical complexity

- 0-18 years old
- complex neuro-developmental and / or sub-acute concerns impacting daily life or
- an acute change in function and / or medical instability or
- significant regression of skills or
- significant risk for deterioration of functioning
- we are unable to assess for sole purpose of funding qualification

Wait TimesAn estimated wait time will be provided, wait time will vary depending on need.
FeesThere are fees for equipment (e.g. crutches, ice picks, axilla/hand grip pads, Dycem, thera-band, Thera-putty, Kinesiotape). On-loan equipment for short periods of time may be available. AADL equipment assessment client responsible for their cost share. On-loan equipment (for short periods of time): minimal costs. AADL cost share.
