Driving Evaluation Program

Provides comprehensive in clinic and on road driving evaluation and counseling to adults who have physical and cognitive concerns as a result of medical conditions.

Assessment of an individual's physical and cognitive abilities including; visual perception, attention, insight and brake reaction using clinically accepted practices and tools. Education and counseling are offered when appropriate.

Recommendations are forwarded to the referral source and to Alberta Transportation Driver Fitness.

If indicated, on road assessments are done in a dual brake vehicle with a driving instructor, within one 1 month of clinical assessment with low tech vehicle modifications available.

It is the responsibility of Alberta Transportation to make decision regarding driving.

Eligibility

Client must meet minimum standards for visual acuity and periphery. Clients requiring high tech vehicle modifications will be directed to the Glenrose DETS program.

Referral Needed

A faxed referral form from a physician or other professional is required.

Healthcare providers should consult the Alberta Referral Directory for service referral information.


Wait Times

An estimated wait time will be provided at the time of appointment booking.

Fees

No fee for in clinic evaluation, however if an individual proceeds to an on road evaluation a fee is incurred.
