Interpretation & Translation Services

 Location: Alberta Wide

To help patients and families who do not speak English well or are deaf or hard of hearing, AHS offers professional medical interpretation for all staff in our buildings. Translation apps and other methods of interpretation are not supported within AHS facilities as they might not be accurate.

Our phone and video interpretation services connect you with trained medical interpreters. Please note not all languages will be available on demand at all times of day. Pre-booking an interpreter may be required. In-person interpretation is also possible, but you need to ask in advance.

Translation services are also available on request for medical documents, AHS teaching materials, and so on, from English into other languages or other languages into English.

Access
Service Access

Patients should advise their AHS health care providers that they require interpretation. This includes calls to Health Link.

Patients, families and AHS staff are responsible to identify that an interpreter is needed and determine the specific language and dialect. The AHS staff member arranges and accesses phone, video or in-person interpreter for their interactions with the patient. If an AHS site does not know how to access an interpreter, they can email or access information available on internal AHS website.
