Child Abuse Services Medical Stream (SCAN) is a specialized service that provides medical services to children who have experienced physical / sexual abuse and / or neglect.The healthcare team offers medical assessment to children who have been, or are at risk for, physical, sexual, or extreme neglect. The services that may be provided include: consults healthcare team assessment of the child who has been abused phone consults with other healthcare providers (regarding abuse or suspected abuse) referrals to other healthcare providers or agencies (as needed) education to healthcare providers about child abuse community child abuse prevention activities (e.g., resource development and distribution) a consult with the SCAN team does not fulfill your duty to report. You must still report Child Abuse concerns to Children and Family Services - Child Intervention Intake and response Team (CIRT)

Contact the Calgary Sexual Assault Response Team at the Sheldon Chumir Urgent Care if the child / youth is 14 years of age or over. If the child / youth is 13 years of age or younger go to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Emergency Department.
