A multidisciplinary, specialized service that provides therapeutic and medical services to children who have experienced physical / sexual abuse and/or neglect.In order to enhance bio-psycho-social health and well-being, the service has two streams:
Therapy Stream (Child Abuse Service):
- assesses the impact of abuse and neglect on the referred child
- provides therapeutic intervention to children and their caregivers to address emotional
- behavioural and relational challenges associated with the abuse and neglect
- children between 6 to 11 years of age who are exhibiting problematic sexual behaviour for
which clinical assessment or treatment is needed
Medical Stream (Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Team - SCAN):
A healthcare team that offers care to children who have been, or are at risk for, physical, sexual, or extreme neglect. The services that may be provided include:
- consults
- healthcare team assessment of the child who has been abused
- phone consults with other healthcare providers (regarding abuse or suspected abuse)
- referrals to other healthcare providers or agencies (as needed)
- education to healthcare providers about child abuse
- community child abuse prevention activities (e.g., resource development and distribution)
