Pediatric Asthma Clinic

Provide appointment for children aged 6 months of age to ≤18 years old, with moderate to severe asthma. Provides in person appointments for diagnosis, management, and asthma education which includes a customized Asthma Action Plan for every patient.

Services include:

  • pulmonary function test (breathing test) for children 5-6 + years ( where developmentally appropriate)
  • assessment and diagnosis
  • asthma education / teaching
  • self-management / asthma action plan

Eligibility

Service targeted to:

  • patients who must be 6 months ≤18 years of age
  • moderate to severe asthma
  • prematurity
  • co-morbidities, including medical and psychosocial concerns affecting child's asthma
  • recent ICU admission for asthma exacerbation
  • critical PFT values
  • >2 hospital admissions with primary or secondary diagnosis of asthma exacerbation requiring systemic steroids within the past 12 months
  • > 2 exacerbations leading to ED visits for asthma in the past 12 months, requiring systemic steroids
  • incompletely controlled asthma despite adherence to regular controller

Wait Times

This will be determined based on established triage criteria for the asthma clinic. The family will be called with an appointment once the referral is processed.
