Speech, Language and Hearing - Infant, Preschool, School-age and Adult Services

Supports individuals with concerns in the areas of speech, language, reading, writing, voice disorders, stuttering and feeding/swallowing disorders.

Services offered:

  • speech and language assessments, therapy, and consultation
  • hearing screening for all ages
  • newborn hearing screening (Early Hearing Detection and Intervention)
  • Hanen and related training (upon request)
  • home programming
  • speech or language therapy groups
  • swallowing and feeding assessments (environmental, fiberoptics video fluoroscopy)
  • voice therapy and vocal hygiene
  • stuttering treatment
  • after-stroke communication therapy
  • language therapy (example: aphasia)
  • in-services for professionals, support staff, or family
  • augmentative communication device trials / assessment (low tech, mid tech, high tech authorization status)
  • low, medium, and high-tech speech generating communication device assessment

Feeding and swallowing services:

  • Bedside swallowing screenings at the hospital or mealtime observations to assess feeding and swallowing.
  • Anyone can refer feeding and swallowing concerns when they see the following when eating/drinking:

- coughing / choking
- breathing changes / gasping
- watering eyes
- sweating
- face becomes red
- won’t eat or drink certain food or fluids

A delay or disorder in the area of communication for individual services.

Open eligibility for training, inservicing or universal services.

Service Access

Healthcare providers should consult the Alberta Referral Directory for service referral information.

Anyone can refer (community member or family member) for outpatient programs and swallowing concerns including bedside swallowing screenings at the hospital or mealtime observations in the office or home to assess feeding and swallowing.
