Clinical Investigation Unit

Assists doctors who are doing clinical research studies and with diagnostic testing in both children and adults to diagnose medical conditions.

Assists doctors with clinical research and diagnostic testing. Also provides:

  • a safe and comfortable hospital location
  • IV starts
  • blood collection
  • outpatient and inpatient capability
  • access to all hospital emergency services
  • meals as indicated

If a diagnostic test is ordered, the CIU helps by:

  • books the patient for the test
  • explains the test and has the patient sign the informed consent
  • starts IVs as needed
  • collecting blood as needed
  • being familiar with testing protocols
  • collecting timed blood samples (as required)
  • giving medications (as required)
