Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is a dedicated unit to the provision of critical care to infants and children presenting primarily with non-cardiac disease including respiratory failure, sepsis, trauma and post operative recovery.

The PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) provides a Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Transport Team which helps to support critically ill children throughout Western Canada.

The Stollery's Critical Care Program participates in an Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) Program which provides life saving support methods and therapies such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) and ventricular assist device (VAD) technology.

The Rapid Assessment Team is based in the PICU for the purpose of rapid evaluation of patients outside the critical care areas.
