Apheresis - Alberta Kidney Care - North

Provides service to separate or filter blood to take out harmful parts.

Services may include:

Plasmapheresis / plasma exchange

  • plasma is separated and taken out of whole blood and is replaced with donated plasma or another blood product. It’s used to treat a number of illnesses including immune system disorders

Red Blood Cell Exchange

  • red cells are separated and taken out of whole blood and replaced with donated red blood cells. It’s used to treat sickle cell disease and other blood diseases

Leukapheresis / White Blood Cell Depletion

  • takes out white blood cells. It’s used to treat some types of leukemia
