Children less than 18 years of age.
Patients are assessed by the renal transplant team using tests and interviews to see if they’re good candidates for surgery. Clients are considered for a transplant if it’s likely the surgery will help the person live longer and have a better quality of life.
Clients are assessed for:
- how urgent their need is
- health and medical history
- medical test results
Clients or caregivers should:
- be able to follow a complex medical treatment plan
- be emotionally stable
- have social support
- have realistic attitudes about their illness and the transplant surgery
