Clinical Islet Transplant

Program transfers donor pancreas islet cells to adults with type I diabetes who have frequent, severe low blood sugars that are difficult to control.

The Islet Transplant Program provides asessment for patients with Type 1 Diabets, ehich includes but is not limited to:

  • medical, surgical and psychosocial assessment
  • diagnostic investigations
  • consultation with specialists

If a patient is deemed suitable for islet cell transplant, the Transplant Program will:

  • list the candidate for transplant
  • monitor the candidate alongside the primary care physician while listed for transplant
  • provide transplant education and support the candidate through the transplant experience

If a patient receives a transplant they will be followed by a Transplant Program lifelong
