Home Parenteral Nutrition Program (North)

Provides service for people who need to have intravenous (IV) nutrition at home.

Provides intravenous (IV) nutrition for people at home who cannot get the nutrition they need by eating or being fed through a tube.

gastroenterologists, registered dietitians, registered nurses (RNs)
Eligibility

Clients must be medically stable and:

  • have central venous access
  • must demonstrate the cognitive, emotional, and physicval ability to manage home PN in a safe independent manner
  • resident home requires electricity, phone, and refrigeration
  • must be medically stable as determined by the HNSP team
  • must be a resident of Alberta (exceptions may be considered)
  • treatment required is greater than 4 weeks
Service Access

There has to be a Physician to Physician referral made before patients are assessed. Patients must be referred from inpatients. (exceptions may be considered).
