Addiction and Mental Health - Youth Addiction Treatment Centre

A live-in treatment program for youth struggling with substance use. This program is a provincial program that supports youth and families living across Alberta.

A live-in treatment program for youth struggling with substance use. This program is a provincial program that supports youth and families living across Alberta. Youth and families participate in ongoing assessment and collaborative service planning that supports skill building, the development of healthy coping strategies, development of strong and healthy support networks in the youth’s home community and relapse prevention planning. As a live in program, the youth will have the opportunity to participate in education and academic activities as provided through Alberta Education. Youth are expected to participate in regular home visits while staying the in program to ensure that skills are transferred outside of the program. The timelines for successful completion of this program are based on meeting the indicators of success as outlined in individual recovery planning and can typically be achieved in 10-14 weeks. Referral from a qualified health professional is required.

Eligibility

For youth, ages 12-19, whose lives have been negatively impacted by substance use or gambling. Clients aged 18-19 will be assessed on a case-by-case basis to ensure that they are functionally adolescent and that their treatment needs are best met by a youth treatment facility.

Referral Needed

Referrals to the Centre are made through an AHS Addictions Counsellor who will assess the youth for readiness.

Referrals can be made by Outpatient Counselors and other allied professionals.
