Stroke Unit

Provides acute medical care to stroke patients.

This service provides:

  • medical care for patients with a stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA)
  • access to neuro-rehabilitation programs for stroke patients and their families
  • medical consultation to other service providers (e.g., inpatient services at other adult sites, and community family physicians / programs)
  • consultation to other service providers such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians and speech-language pathologists

Access
Service Providers May Include
dieticians, doctors, nurse practitioners, occupational therapists (OTs), physiotherapists (PTs), registered nurses (RNs), speech-language pathologists (SLPs), stroke rehabilitation coordinators
Referral Needed

A doctor's referral is required.

Service Access

This is an inpatient service. Patients are admitted through the Emergency Department or through a physician referral.
