Rapid Access Unit

Short stay medical unit that treats people with non critical acute medical problems.

The Rapid Access Unit (RAU) is a 30 bed medical unit that is specifically staffed and equipped to receive medical patients presenting with acute medical illness from the Emergency Department for multidisciplinary team and medical assessment, care, and treatment prior to transition home or transfer to an inpatient unit when appropriate. In this model, patients are identified early and resources are loaded upstream in the patient's journey with a focus on strong coordination and transition back into the community to support more effective health outcomes.
