Northern Alberta Home Nutrition Support Program - Adults (Enteral)

Offers home support for clients who cannot sustain their nutrition through oral intake and nutritional access is through a feeding tube. Patients supported reside from Red Deer north. Anticipated therapy must be greater than 1 month.

Helps people who live at home and need to use a feeding tube, by providing:

  • training on how to use a feeding tube
  • equipment, supplies and formula
  • help keeping track of the client’s progress (phone calls and clinic visits)

Access
Service Providers May Include
clerks, dietitians, GI physician specialists, occupational therapists, primary care providers, registered nurses (RNs), speech language pathologists, social workers
Eligibility

Adults over the age of 18 who are medically stable and:

  • need home nutritional support for more than 4 weeks
  • are capable of managing tube feeds at home, or have a caregiver
  • have a home environment with electricity, running water, phone, refrigeration and safety
  • tube access already established and formula is tolerated
  • Inpatient referral only (some exceptions with outpatent and NG access
  • must have a Primary Care Provider managing care
