Test Name/Synonym:

COVID-19 Serology (SARS-CoV-2, novel coronavirus, 2019-nCoV)

Clinical Indications:

Serology should NOT be used for diagnosis of acute COVID-19 infection. For diagnosis of COVID-19, refer to: COVID-19 Virus (novel coronavirus, 2019-nCoV)

There are very few situations in which COVID-19 serology may help with patient diagnosis and management. These include:

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome
Pernio-like acral lesions or Chilblains (COVID-19 toes)
Vasculitis in young children
Unusual neurology or thromboembolic events

Ordering Alert:

Ordering clinicians should discuss all requests with the ProvLab Virologist-on-call (VOC) prior patient phlebotomy. Failure to do so may result in test request being canceled.

A positive serology does NOT mean a patient is immune to COVID-19.
